About the product

This ready-made blend combines raw Peruvian cacao with traditional warming spices, so you can easily prepare a ceremonial cacao drink with just hot water or milk. The cacao base comes from grower cooperatives in the Peruvian Amazon and is cold-pressed from unroasted beans to preserve the character of the bean. The spice blend is already added in carefully balanced proportions.

The blend contains cardamom, Ceylon cinnamon, nutmeg, a mild touch of chilli, tonka bean, poppy seed and vanilla. These spices are not chosen at random. Cinnamon and chilli have traditionally been combined with cacao since pre-Columbian times.

Raw cacao mass (Theobroma cacao) is cacao in its unprocessed form, made by stone-grinding unroasted beans. Because the beans are not roasted, heat-sensitive compounds are preserved intact. The Peruvian Amazon origin gives an earthy, slightly bitter base with floral notes, unlike the fruitier varieties from Ecuador. Coconut blossom sugar rounds off the blend without overpowering the character of the cacao.
